Philadelphia School District Searches For New Superintendent Amid Budget Crisis

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In addition to trying to solve its budget crisis, the Philadelphia School District is still looking for a new superintendent.

The district has 87 resumes to choose from in its search for a new superintendent, according to the Public School Notebook.

School Reform Commission Chair Pedro Ramos told City Council during budget hearings on Tuesday, it's a mix of candidates.

"Among the applicants and people being considered at this early stage of the search, you have a mix of traditional educators, un-traditional educators and some number of folks who have some grounding in education."

Ramos says sometimes the best of educators are weighed-down by the non-education parts of running a complex school system. The district's goal is to hire a new superintendent by July, but Ramos says the priority is to pick the best person possible.
