Penn Women's Lacrosse Headed Back to NCAA Tournament

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – For the sixth straight season, the Penn women's lacrosse squad has landed a spot in the NCAA Tournament field.

The Quakers earned an at-large berth and will travel to Loyola (MD) on Sunday for a first-round match-up.

Penn head coach Karin Corbett is happy the Quakers got a nod despite losing the Ivy League Tournament Title to Dartmouth.

"We're very, very excited.  We have a young team and it was kind of hit or miss whether we were going to get in and what they were going to do with us after we had the selection show on Sunday.  So we are very excited to have at least another week to play and to get into that tournament."

Penn is 9-7 overall this season, but they have played a very difficult schedule.  In fact, all seven losses came to teams that were ranked 13th or higher in the country at the time Penn played them.

Loyola is 12-5 after winning a second consecutive Big East tournament title.  Corbett says their success is not an accident.

"Obviously very young, very fast.  I think they live and die by the fast break and we've really got to slow them down.  They have a great goalkeeper who is very active."

Penn and Loyola will face-off at 1:00pm down in Maryland.
