PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A charter school in West Philadelphia has a new salad bar in its cafeteria — installed as an event promoting the premiere of a documentary on obesity.
The new salad bar at the Global Leadership Academy at 4601 Girard Avenue is the result of a grant to promote the HBO documentary “The Weight of the Nation,” premiering May 14th.
Dr. Naomi Johnson Booker (below), CEO of the academy, says the new rolling salad bar will give her children even more healthy choices.
“We don’t have junk food — you’re not allowed to bring junk food here,” Booker told KYW Newsradio today. “So you don’t bring red dye juice. (And) the teachers have noted that there are different behaviors going on in the classroom.”
Mayor Nutter and Philadelphia’s efforts to fight obesity are featured in the documentary series.
