BLOG: US Airways To Expand Wi-Fi

By Jim Donovan: US Airways is expanding its Gogo Wi-Fi inflight Internet service to its fleet of Airbus A319, A320 and Embraer 190 aircraft. Once completed with the expansion US Airways will have 90 percent of its mainline domestic fleet equipped with Wi-Fi Internet access. The expansion is expected to begin with Embraer aircraft this summer and Airbus A320 family aircraft in the fall of 2012. The complete installation should wrap up by the end of 2013.

US Airways has also announced that it will launch Gogo Vision, a streaming video product that will allow passengers to watch movies and television shows on their own Wi-Fi enabled device. Movies and TV shows will remain accessible for viewing even after the customer has landed - movies for 24 hours and TV shows for 72 hours. Unexpired rentals will be available for playback on the ground using the same device and browser used onboard. Gogo Vision entertainment will range from $0.99 to $5.99, separate from the cost of Wi-Fi service.
