PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are searching for those responsible who splashed paint and left a note with a racial slur on the campaign headquarters for a candidate for State Representative.

The race for the 186th District in Pennsylvania took a drastic turn on Tuesday.

A campaign worker found red paint splashed all over the sign and the front of the campaign headquarters for Damon K. Roberts in South Philadelphia Tuesday morning.

However, the most disturbing aspect of the vandalism was a note with a racial slur that was found stuffed right near the front window of Roberts’ campaign headquarters.

“We found a note that said ‘we out for blood (n-word),’” Roberts said. Roberts said the derogatory word was written out.

Roberts, who is African-American, told Eyewitness News the use of the racial slur took him by surprise.

“It’s just very disappointing and angering, quite frankly, that something like this would occur,” Roberts said. “It’s not good, and that anybody would stoop to this level is disappointing.”

Attempts to reach both of Roberts’ opponents, who are also African-American, were unsuccessful.

So far, no arrests have made. The investigation into the vandalism is ongoing.
