Christians Around The Region Celebrate The Beginning Of Holy Week

By Suzanne Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Christians in Philadelphia celebrated Palm Sunday at church services this Sunday morning.

At Old Pine Church in Old City the pastor had the children reenact part of Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem while the congregation waved palms as they passed.

Reverend Jason Ferris then retold the story of Palm Sunday. He described the joyous crowds that greeted Jesus that day. He added that the difference between those who cheered for Jesus then and today’s Christians is that believers today know how the story will end just days later in Jesus’ betrayal and death.

The day marks the start of Holy Week, which ends the following Sunday with Easter.
