Teacher Gets Engaged During School Musical -- On National Proposal Day

By Chelsea Karnash

CHERRY HILL, NJ (CBS) – March 20th is National Proposal Day, who knew?

Certainly not one local substitute teacher, who got the surprise of her life during a performance of the musical "The Wedding Singer" on Tuesday.

Chanelle Wilson was watching the production during the song "Pop" with her students at Cherry Hill High School West when her real-life boyfriend, Justin Poe, walked out on stage with a bouquet of flowers—and a ring.

"Miss Wilson, can you come up to the front, please?" Poe asked, earning audible gasps from the audience.

Poe then proceeded to get down on one knee and "pop the question," and--accompanied by wild cheering from the audience--was rewarded with a positive answer from a visibly stunned Wilson, his girlfriend of five years.

After the show, CBS3 spoke to the newly engaged couple.

"It was great; I loved it," Wilson said, adding that she was completely surprised.

And what if she had said no?

"I didn't really think about that," Poe admitted.

"I would never say no!" Wilson replied.

Poe and Wilson met at Rowan University more than five years ago, when she first dated his best friend.
