BRIGANTINE, N.J. (CBS) – Authorities are investigating a blaze that swept through a multi-unit home in Atlantic County Friday morning.
Firefighters were called out to the 900 block of Brigantine Avenue in Brigantine just after 3:30 a.m. Firefighters were greeted with heavy fire and smoke billowing from the roof. Residents were evacuated from the building. However, according to Captain James Holl of the Brigantine Fire Department, there were initial reports of occupants still inside.
Crews made an attempted rescue, but the building was so fully involved in smoke and fire that a rescue was not possible. Capt. Holl says an overhaul of the building is underway and that will determine whether there were any residents were left inside.
No injuries have been reported at this time. The fire remains under investigation.
