University Of Georgia Students Spending Spring Break Volunteering In Philadelphia

By Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A group of 18 students from the University of Georgia will be spending their Spring Break working with the Arc of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Developmental Disabilities Corporation. The students will spend the week as a buddy to a PDDC client with developmental disabilities.

Patricia Mecca with the Arc of Philadelphia says the volunteer students will buddy with a client, and spend the week doing a number of activities such as a trip to the zoo and Citizens Bank Park, which Mecca says is a great experience for the clients.

"One of the goals of our program participants is that they are able to get out and interact with the rest of the community, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to have that experience."

Michael Brown, one of the students from UGA, explains why they chose to work with the Arc of Philadelphia, "They really foster a service learning environment, and really help us work towards our values and goals because they have the same values and goals."
