Cherry Hill Restaurant Offers Unique Dessert Hot Dog

By Chelsea Karnash

CHERRY HILL, NJ (CBS) – A hot dog…for dessert?

That's what Cherry Hill hot dog shop The Cool Dog Café is offering. But it's not just any hot dog. This is a deep-fried Sabrett hot dog that's topped with peanut butter, warm brownie bits, and whipped cream and caramel and chocolate sauces.

Dubbed the "Gadzooks Dog," the creation is apparently selling well, too—The Cool Dog's Ira Guttman and Shawn Harwood say they've already sold more than 150 in the few months that the dessert dog has been available.

"We decided a few months ago that there was no reason people couldn't enjoy a hot dog for dessert. We needed a 'transitional' ingredient to pull together the salty frank with the sweet toppings…peanut butter! Peanut butter has both characteristics, salty and sweet," Guttman and Harwood explain.

And while the two also admit that "some people are a bit afraid of it," they say that the Gadzooks Dog is just "one of those things you have to try to appreciate."

If you can get over the fact that it's a hot dog for dessert, that is.
