Police Release Surveillance Video Of West Philadelphia Hit-Run Accident

Mike Dougherty and Oren Liebermann

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police have released surveillance video of a hit-and-run in West Philadelphia that sent a 9-year-old girl to the hospital on Tuesday.

In the video, a dark blue sedan, possibly a Honda, is seen speeding off after slamming into Aijahanae Johnson who was crossing the 4800 block of Merion Avenue on her bicycle. Johnson was rushed to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with cuts and bruises.

The vehicle, driven by a black woman police believe to be in her 20s, had front end damage from a previous collision.

Neighbor Angela Norman said she tried to follow the car after the accident, but lost it after a while. She was, however, able to provide police with a description.

Johnson has since been released from the hospital and is doing okay, but family members are shocked that someone could speed off after striking someone.

"For someone to just hit a child and keep running is just crazy, to not even check on the child to see if she is okay," said Porsche Powell.

Anyone with information is asked to call accident investigators at 215-685-3180.
