Gary R'nel: Decision 2012

2/19/12 - by Gary R'nel

My GPS changed directions on me during the South Carolina primary. As the 2012 GOP run for the White House unfolded inIowa, I was certain that the most unobstructed road to1600 Pennsylvania Avenue would be the road without several detours.  What exactly do I mean by detours?  The millions of dollars in unlimited PAC money spent on negative advertising, the character assassinations, and the muckraking run rampant. I calculated that fewer personal attacks, the more positive the tone of the campaign, the stronger the eventual GOP nominee would be heading into debates with President Obama.  After watching several debates I now believe that exploratory surgery is the order of the day. Why not let Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul have at it with each other. Why not have the opportunity to have a more clear understanding of Mitt's goals and objectives at Bain Capital. Let us learn more about Newt Gingrich the "historian" when it comes to Fannie and Freddie or Rick Santorum's flip on the Right to Work law.  Ron Paul, well does it really matter?

This election clearly defines the stark contrast between Democrats and Republicans. At the epicenter is the question of how taxpayer dollars will be disbursed. There are many similarities to the FDR/Herbert Hoover contest. Our next President will be defined as either transformational or transitional.Americatruly is at a crossroads concerning our role in world politics and the global economy. Voters have never been more entitled to an in depth look at these candidates. Their character flaws, their strengths and what they truly believe. That may be the most difficult of all to assess.
