Police ID Victims In Deadly Kelly Drive Head-On Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police have identified two people who were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Kelly Drive Monday afternoon. A third person is in critical condition.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. Monday along a stretch of the road between Strawberry Mansion Drive and Fountain Green Drive.

Authorities say 34-year-old Karen Watts and 11-year-old Quinn Fleming, both of Roxborough, were killed in the crash. It was not immediately known if Watts and Fleming were related or neighbors.

According to investigators, Watts was reportedly “speeding” in the northbound lane and lost control of the vehicle. Police say she “over-corrected” and swerved into the southbound lane, striking a minivan head on.

Both Watts and Fleming were pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the minivan suffered life-threatening injuries and is hospitalized in critical condition at Hahnemann University Hospital.

The deadly crash remains under investigation.

Why on earth do people ignore speed limits on roads like Kelly Dr and Lincoln Dr. They are there for a reason. Maybe one day they city will decide to enforce these speed limits, then much needed income may be egnerated. I drive these deadly roads on a daily basis and the speeds are astounding.
