Philadelphia Couple Held For Trial In Torture Death Of 3-Year-Old Boy

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Witnesses today detailed the horrific murder of a three-year-old Philadelphia boy who was beaten, burned, and tortured for months before he died last summer.

A West Philadelphia couple — the child’s godmother and her boyfriend, who were supposed to be caring for the child while the mother got her life in order — have been ordered held for trial.

Witnesses have testified that three-year-old Jaquinn Brewton, just over three feet tall and weighing only 32 pounds, had new and healing wounds including bruises, cuts, and burns — at least one from a blowtorch.

“There really wasn’t a part of him that wasn’t covered with signs of clear abuse every day,” Philadelphia prosecutor Bridget Kirn told KYW Newsradio today.

In a statement read by the judge, defendant Marcus King (6′ 7″ tall and 220 pounds) admitted hitting the boy occasionally but told police that co-defendant Nadera Batson was the “enforcer” and beat the boy about every other day for misbehaving.

King’s attorney says King wasn’t home the day the fatal trauma to the body occurred.

Attorneys for both defendants deny their client inflicted the fatal trauma.

what would Human rights activist have to say if these two were beaten everyday for every infraction they commit in prison? i hope they get the death penalty, even that is being to kind to them

  2. Tray says:

These two savages should be tortured like they did that poor little boy. As a parent, I cannot fathom how anyone could harm a child. I live and breathe for my children. I don’t understand how other family members didn’t realize what was happening to this child. Didn’t anyone care about this boy????

  3. Dee says:

How despicable.. Where were all those who witnessed this and noticed the injuries to this little precious boy? As I have said on previous posts. about time we all stand firm and take action against abuse whether it be human beings or animals… How can you not jump in to save a life? All of creation needs tender loving care and our help to make sure they do not suffer.. God bless this baby boy!!

  4. Char says:

who the Hell are the “witnesses” that noticed this abuse going on for months leading up to this lil angels death???? they are guilty too!!! Disgusted and heartbroken! :(

    1. noname says:

Witness are ignored, i been reporting a case for 3 years now on a 3 year old and because the parents are gainfully employed by the city and financial institution the reports keep getting close out, despite broken bones and bruised face and puncture marks.

  5. Hater says:

“Attorneys for both defendants deny their client inflicted the fatal trauma” Perhaps we need some Solomon justice. Cut them both in half.

  6. Linda D Bryant says:

As a taxpayer, I am sick and tired of seeing my hard earned $$ go towards trials
for individuals–(parents, care-givers) who savagely abuse infants and toddlers.

$$ can be saved by having a “special court”–where the same punishment, torture, etc., is meted out to them. Where a jury of their peers– gets to show them NO MERCY!!!!!!!

  7. JustMe says:

These two people should never see the light of day again, and they should rot in hell for what they did to this Angel. Continue to Rest In Peace, little guy!!
