Santorum Picking Up Steam In Iowa

By Larry Kane

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - After a year of campaigning, the caucus-goers of Iowa are getting to vote. The Pennsylvania connection to this campaign could be a game changer.

For the last 24 hours, the Des Moines Register Newspaper poll has made headlines, but there's a back story to the most respected poll in the Iowa caucuses.

The poll shows Mitt Romney ahead of Ron Paul by a few points with Rick Santorum in third place. But when you consider just the last two days of the four day poll, Santorum actually surges by Ron Paul and finishes in second place.

The question: could this surge continue through tomorrow's caucuses. One important note: the poll says that 41 percent of Caucus voters could still change their mind in the Republican contest.

If the Santorum surge continues, the ex-Senator could cast a large shadow as the battle moves to the South after the New Hampshire primary next week.
