It's A New Year's Eve Parrrhty At The Buccaneer's Ball

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's a New Year's Eve party with a pirate theme at the Independence Seaport Museum on Penn's Landing.

"It's a swashbuckler's themed New Year's Eve celebration, with cocktails, dinner dancing, pirate hats, eye patches, noisemakers."

The Buccaneer's Ball at the Seaport Museum is black tie optional, and B.Y.O.P. (bring-your-own-parrot), according to museum spokesman Brian Kelley. "We thought, 'why not take advantage of the fireworks?' we have one of the best views of the fireworks over the river."

Since there are two fireworks displays this year, the big show at the stroke of midnight, and an earlier one at 6 p.m., the Seaport Museum will host a children's party for the earlier fireworks.

Kelley says admission covers noisemakers, eye-patches, dinner, cocktails, dancing and music with a nine-piece band.

The adult program starts at 8:30, New Years Eve. Limited tickets are available at the door, but advance purchases are recommended.
