Body Found In South Jersey Lake

By Elizabeth Hur

COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. (CBS) -- Authorities in South Jersey are investigating a disturbing find, a body in a lake.

A kayaker made the discovery in Newton Lake in Collingswood around 5 o'clock Monday evening.

While authorities did not release any names, Eyewitness News spoke to one woman who was convinced she knows who it is.

"I want to know for sure, they're not giving me real answers," Teresa Cerini said.

Eyewitness News sat down with Cerini shortly after she rushed over to Newton Lake to get some answers from authorities.

"I said, is it my friend? Is it my friend? And they said just calm down, the news is here, we don't want a lot of things out," Cerini recalled.

Cerini's friend, 55-year-old Charlene Ferraro has been missing since early Sunday morning. Late Monday, officials recovered a body from Newton Lake which is about a ten-minute walking distance from Ferraro's apartment.

Investigations are now underway to figure out what went wrong. In the meantime, Cerini admits, she fears the worst.

Cerini explained, "She was a sleep walker and I'm sure there are other people out there that have this disorder and it's dangerous. I wish she had come here that night but she didn't. I think someone picked her up, did something and dumped her."

Late Monday night, authorities confirmed they have identified the body but were not prepared to release the name. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

In Ferraro's case, authorities maintain they do not suspect foul play.
