PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — This week is your last chance before Christmas to score the best online shopping deals, since most free shipping offers run out before the weekend.

But for some items, it could pay to wait.

Certain discounts won’t go any deeper than right now.  Take, for instance, the like-new refurbished iPad 2 in Apple’s online store: the base model’s price is $80 cheaper than the normal stock.

Then, there’s the app store and Android Marketplace.  CNET senior editor Scott Stein says app makers want to appear on top 25 lists by the time all those new devices are unwrapped on Christmas morning, so “a lot of people are eager to give away or heavily discount apps in order to raise their rankings right now.”

Good marketing for them; good deals for us.

But, Stein says, for TVs and other big-ticket items you’ll find at the big-box stores, the best deals could be yet to come.

“If you’ve seen price drops already, you’ll probably see some more over the next week or so, as people want to get this merchandise out the door,” Stein tells KYW Newsradio.
