PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Thanksgiving is a time for relaxation, reflection and family. It can also be a dangerous time for many families that get together and partake in the age old tradition — ok maybe a few decades at best – but the tradition of playing some sort of competitive family sport like touch football.
Let me go on the record by saying that it is a great idea to take part in physical activity but my fear is that if you take a group of relatively sedentary people like parents, aunts and uncles and put them in competition with teens and young adults, the competitive juices might get going and this could lead to possible strains, pulled muscles or even worse.
The key here is to recognize your limits and partake in the activities but not overdo it. Just a suggestion, but from years of seeing patients on Friday morning with these injuries, it is a valid one.
