PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police seek the public’s help in locating a man connected to a robbery that left a woman in critical condition earlier this week.

At about 11 p.m. on Monday, police say a 24-year-old was walking near the 2000 block of Rittenhouse Square when she was approached by an unknown male.

According to authorities, the suspect demanded the woman’s wallet, banged her head into a wall, and then slashed her numerous times with a knife before fleeing the scene with money and several debit and credit cards.

Police say during the struggle, the woman suffered a facial fracture and lacerations to her head, neck, chest, arms and hands.

The suspect is described as a black male in his thirties, approximately 5’8” with a short beard, short hair and bushy eyebrows. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black baggy sweatpants.

Authorities say it is possible the suspect is homeless.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251.
