PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tyreek Duren scored a game-high 23 points and led four La Salle players in double figures in a 92-83 victory over James Madison Saturday in non-league action.
Duren had ample help from fellow sophomore Sam Mills (18 points), Earl Pettis (15) and especially Jerrell Wright. Wright, a freshman, had his first double-double for the Explorers (2-1) with a career-high 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds in just 21 minutes of play.
With just under 10 minutes to play in the second half, La Salle led James Madison (1-1) just 53-51. Then the Explorers went on a 14-3 run. Duren hit consecutive 3-pointers and then a long jumper. Mills then drilled a 3-pointer and Wright scored on a conventional three-point play to cap the 14-3 run for a 67-54 lead.
JMU never got closer than six points after that. A.J. Davis led the Dukes with 23 points.
