City Officials Say Construction Can't Start Until Dilworth Plaza Is Unoccupied

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - City officials say they still don't have an answer from the Occupy Philadelphia protesters as to whether they'll move from Dilworth Plaza when renovation works begins.

The city is still to hoping to cordon off Dilworth Plaza later this month for a $50-million makeover, but standing in the way quite literally are a couple of hundred Occupy Philly protesters and their tents.

Managing Director Rich Negrin says he's waiting for an answer from the Occupy group as to whether they'll move, but he makes clear the city will be patient.

"It's a construction project, so I think we have some time."

(Dunn:) "Is there a drop dead date for Occupy Philadelphia to move?

"There is not. We have not given them a drop dead date, and I don't think there's a drop dead date for the construction."

Paul Levy of the Center City District, who pushed for the Dilworth makeover, would not comment.
