PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Bike Expo’s going on this weekend at the 23rd Street Armory in Center City.
Bikes, bags, clothes, hardware – even a product to de-stinkify your helmet and shoes – are on display, along with an obvious love of cycling.
Organizer Bina Bilenky says bike culture’s thriving here.
“Philly is a great biking city. We have a lot of really good advocacy groups. There’s the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. We also have a lot of great clubs. So even though the streets are narrow, there are cobblestones – it gets a little crazy – we have a lot of people working towards it. And people love biking in Philly – and downtown’s flat, so that helps.”
Bilenky says there’s another positive.
“You can take your bike on Septa and head a little bit out of town. We do that a lot – we’ll take the train out to Paoli and then ride out to Lancaster and back, so that makes a nice day ride.”
Although probably not that much fun on a snowy day in October.
