PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Hoagies are truly a special treat to Philadelphians and if you are from the area, you know that it’s all about the quality of the ingredients that make this sandwich taste great.

If you are a lover of hoagies, you can compete with others fans to create a recipe for the ‘With Love’ hoagie.

In honor of National Sandwich Day on November 3, Primo Hoagies has teamed up with Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation and in an effort to enlighten consumers about the history of hoagies.

The initiative, titled ‘Dear Hoagie,’ features hoagie information on new web pages at, hoagie trivia contests, and consumer engagement activities which include a tailgate takeover on Sunday October 30th which sports fans at Lincoln Financial field can enter.

However, the highlight among all of these events just might be your chance to have your very own ‘With Love’ hoagie sold at over 70 Primo Hoagie locations.

Fans can log onto and submit their recipe which should represent the “soul and spirit” of the Philadelphia hoagie. Your recipe must be designed from Primo’s 60 ingredient list. On November 3,, Primo Hoagies and other judges will conduct a taste-test and from the top five finalists, will choose the hoagie recipe that will become the ‘With Love’ hoagie.

  1. Mike in Philly says:

It really is hard to find a great Italian hoagie in Philly these days.. Primo is very good but there used to be a lot of good sandwich shops.. Now, nobody knows what they are doing, they hardly use any meat and don’t even know how to put the spices/oregano on anymore. Whoever starts a deli or sandwich shop and really pays attention to what they are doing CONSISTENTLY can have a long line of people waiting and cash register ringing…
