Proposed Plan to Toll Route 422 Presented In Royersford Tuesday Night

ROYERSFORD (CBS) – Area residents will get a chance Tuesday night to voice their opinions about a plan to put tolls on Route 422.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has presented a plan to toll the expressway to pay for badly needed repairs but area lawmakers say their phones are ringing off the hook from motorists who are opposed to the idea.

So, Tuesday night at Pope John Paul High School in Royersford, the DVRPC will present its plan at a forum and hear from the public. State Representative Mike Vereb is against tolls.

“Right now, I mean I’m against it. I’ve been against it and there’s one reason; I think it’s tyranny to zip code. Where was all the money to fix 422 when 309 and other roads east of 202 were fixed?” Vereb said.

He says all four legislators on the panel are opposed to the tolls but they want to hear what their constituents have to say after he says the facts are put on the table. The forum gets underway at seven.

422 E is a parking lot in the morning, 422 W is in a parking lot the evening. Name me a major commuter road that ISN’T a parking lot in at least one direction during rush hours. That’s why they call it RUSH HOUR. We can start with 76 and 476, parts of 95. I don’t see anyone up in arms about those roads and how they need to be tolled so the traffic issues can be resolved.

Think about it, 76 is a mess every day, both directions, any time of day. 422 is only had for a few hours in the morning and a few at night, and only during the weekday. If something needs to be fixed it’s 76.

Do they really expect the public to support paying tolls? Seems like a silly waste of time to get an answer you already know.

Paul – It’s just like Field of Dreams, “if you build it, they will come.” I remember when the 422 expressway opened through rural farm country. Wasn’t that long ago.

422 in the morning is not a road it’s a parking lot. Forget the toll and charge for parking. You put a toll on 422 and Ridge and Germantown Pikes will turning into gridlock as well. All those greedy developers bulit up everything west of Trooper so the beamer crowd could have their mc-mansions.
