Local Personal Growth Coach Offers Back To School Tips

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local personal growth coach says the start of the school year is the perfect time to establish new habits for their kids to help them get the most out of the school year.

Teresa Moore Griffin says interacting with teens and tweens can be difficult but, without probing too hard or being too pushy, parents need to keep a handle on their kids' lives, especially with social media.

Moore Griffin says bullying is becoming more of a problem and if your children are having those issues, you will begin to see it.

"I think any of those kinds of signs that you see, change in attitude, change in behavior, change in friends and who they're taking with and the activities they're doing; those are all signs that something is afoot and you need to get to the bottom of it."

Moore-Griffin says, when trying to understand their children better, some parents take it a step further by inviting their children's friends over for outings or events.

"The mom or dad will cook and they'll have food around and movies and stuff. While the kids are sitting, involved in this activity, they're also talking about their lives, and what's going on for them and what's up for them. So, you learn a lot in that process."

Moore Griffin suggests parents ask, but do not push. If that does not work, ask school and team officials.
