Philadelphia International Airport Stops Flights Due To Hurricane Irene

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Travel conditions in the area are experiencing major delays and cancellations as Hurricane Irene makes its way up the east coast.

Philadelphia International Airport officially closed Saturday at 10:30 p.m. after the last scheduled airline departed. The airport will remain closed until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Airport officials previously announced there would be no scheduled departures for Sunday; however, management will assess the situation throughout the day and will advise when the airport will resume operations.

Hurricane Irene has prompted some unprecedented actions by the city of Philadelphia including a suspension of all SEPTA services at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

"Buses, trolleys, subway, elevated, regional rail, all five counties — all service will stop at 12:30AM on Sunday morning," said Mayor Nutter on Friday afternoon.

All PATCO service was also suspended until further notice.
