LINWOOD, N.J. (CBS) – A vigil was held Sunday night for four high school football players killed in a car accident on the Garden State Parkway Saturday.

Friends and family gathered at Mainland Regional Football Field in Linwood, New Jersey to remember Casey Brenner, Edgar Bozzi, Nicholas Conner, and Dean Khourty.

The crash happened near exit 38A in Egg Harbor Township a little before noon on Saturday. Their 2002 Ford Explorer, which was carrying eight occupants, was headed southbound on the Garden State Parkway when police said the driver, Casey Brenner, lost control (see related story).

Four other teenagers in the vehicle, Jacob Smith, Kyle Beattie, Alex Denafo and Kenneth Randall, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Three of them have been released from the hospital, according to police.

Counselors were made available Sunday evening for students at the high school.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

a true loss for all, we need to show more involvement and vigilance so 17 year olds do not pack 7 passengers into a vehicle not meant for 8 people, and on a license at that age is not supposed to be allowed to have passengers under the age of 21 in his care, a true shame and sadness for all parents/children alike.
