PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Three people are recovering at area hospitals following a police pursuit in the city’s Kensington neighborhood Saturday night.

At about 6:45 p.m., Philadelphia Police were pursuing a car for unknown reasons when the vehicle ran through a red light, striking a van between Frankford and Lehigh avenues, according to authorities.

Police say the van then struck a pole which fell on a man who was walking in the area. The pedestrian, who police have identified as a 31-year-old man, was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital with a broken leg, dislocated shoulder and head injury and is listed in critical condition.

The two people in the van, a 19-year-old and 64-year-old woman, were transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle that was involved in the pursuit, a 32-year-old male, was taken to Temple University Hospital with neck and back pain. Police say he is in stable condition and is currently in police custody.

No officers were injured in this series of accident. Charges are pending.
