AMITY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – No one apparently witnessed the brutal car crash, and if it wasn’t for a bit of luck, the driver might still be struggling for her life alone in the dark woods.
Neighbor Kim Pcal noticed the skid marks off Route 422 eastbound in Amity Township, Berks County and decided to take a look.
Pcal spotted the car flipped on its roof embedded in the woods and then he found the driver and called police.
“I just hope she’s OK by the grace of God she is. She’s out there all night long by herself and all day in this heat,” Pcal said.
Police say the unidentified woman was found about 40 feet away from the car at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
It is believed the car crash occurred at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
“We do not know if she was ejected at that time. She was conscious, but not particularly coherent at the time,” Amity Township Police Chief Kent Shuebrook said.
For 15 hours, the woman was by herself in the woods, out of plain sight and dealing with several painful injuries from a crash no one even knew existed.
“She said her jaw was broke. She has busted ribs, a broken arm and might have a broken lower back,” Pcal said.
The woman, who is believed to be in her 20′s, was rushed to Reading Hospital where she is in critical condition.
