PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A local college is offering classes this fall for those who help adults on the autism spectrum.
The graduate level courses at Chesnut Hill College are unique according to the program coordinator Rosemary Mullaly, but she says the need to understand adults with autism is great.
A recent state census shows that by 2014 there will be more than 10,000 and adults living with autism in Pennsylvania. The classes will help people working in the community.
“People who interact with adults with autism on a regular basis, so that they can really do a much better job of making sure that these individuals live meaningful lives connected to the community, have access to housing that is affordable and safe.”
The college also plans to expand partnership programs in the area.
