Temporary AC Units Installed To Cool Off Philly's Finest

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's tough enough being a cop, but imagine being a cop in a building with no air conditioning during this stifling heat wave?

You could say that for a while, they needed a lot of antiperspirant under the long arm of the law. The air conditioning unit at the Northwest Detective Division broke on Wednesday.

And with daytime temperatures in the 90s, Lieutenant Clifton Lyghts says his officers did what they could to cope.

"Drank liquids. It wasn't an inferno, but it was warm. But I guess everyone just managed the best way they could."

A new compressor wouldn't be available for a week, so four temporary box-style A/C units were just installed, and with unbearable temperatures outside, detectives are back to working in cool comfort inside.

"It made it much nicer."
