Nearly 100 Overcome By Heat At Outdoor Concert In Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Despite scorching temperatures, more than 12,000 people, mostly teenagers, gathered outside of the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden on Thursday to see dozens of bands perform live as part of this year's Vans Warped Tour. Unfortunately, some of the young music lovers were not able to ignore the heat.

"I just, I guess I got overheated and I got really dizzy," said 17-year-old Maureen Meckly, who loves the Warped Tour, but thinks the oppressive heat was just a little too much. "I had to grab onto her (friend's) shoulder to tell her I was passing out."

Press Coordinator Bethany Watson says the tour made a number of accommodations to help concert goers beat the heat:

"We have sprinklers, we also have slip and slides and everything else that we can do. We have medic tents out and about."

Watson says they also offered discounted bottles of water and gave free filtered water to anyone who had their own bottle.

Nearly 100 people said they felt the effects of the heat, but tour officials say at least one person was sent to the hospital for heat related problems.
