The reason most criminals do what they do, is because of people like Ms. V.Gaines. We can die from anything, being struck by a car, a heart attack or even being hit by a skate boarder….don’t let criminals get away with your property or anything else. I too live in Washington DC and I’m black, I say my race because I go into black high crime neighborhoods daily and am approached on a constant basis by criminals……thugs and the likes….I won’t give them anything and I will resist each and every time.

This woman is my new hero. What a pathetic piece of human waste, trying to rob a pregnant woman! I am sure when he goes away and the other prisoners find out how he got his ass kicked by his “victim”, I hope they will provide him with the true justice he deserves.

Yes, in this case she IS a hero. We’re not focusing on what she did in the past or whatever her life style is. The guy attacked her and she did what she had to do to protect herself and her unborn child. I don’t care who you are or what you did, you have the right to defend yourself. And that’s what she did. She was not doing anything to that guy. I wonder what kind of skeletons we would find in YOUR closet if you kicked the butt of someone who was attacking YOU? Hmmmm, makes one wonder, doesn’t it?

actually you wouldn’t find any in my closet as I don’t do drugs and I have never stolen anything from no one unlike her and the supposed robber. She is a thief and that is all that there is to it. It disgust me that you people want to praise her for her actions as she has done the same thing to someone else. She was interviewed at the delco court house as she was there for the charges for stealing from someone else. So please tell me how this brings justice to her cause all the sudden she is now a hero well in my eyes she will only be a hero if she repays back what she has stolen from other people. This isn’t her past it is her present and she is just as bad. No this does not make me wonder at all about it. Thank you.

Exactly, why commend the police for this, she was the only one who did something about it. I had an experience at the “EL” too…
on June 29th at 8:30am, when I got off the 59 bus, again in route to work while stepping into the escalator a male, African American – was very close to me when I was looked back to him, he groped me and noticed his cell phone underneath my dress. I panicked but my reaction was to push and strike him, which I did because he was about to grope me again. I don’t think he had it coming that I striked him so by the time I was going to look for a police officer, there was no one to be found. I was not hurt, but who knows what could have happened!
I sent a formal complaint to SEPTA police because No cops were around, and to top it all, they don’t even have surveillance cameras in that. So the only hero is Ms. O’Brien. and who cares what she has done in the past. To those who are badgering her, get a life. Who knows how many thefts and crimes she prevented by this.

I totally agree that what she did in the past had nothing to do with what happened. I’m glad she busted the guy up because he’s at least incapacitated to the point that he can’t go out and do this to anyone else. And frankly I hope he rots in prison. What really trumps everything is the fact that she has an unborn child to protect. So, no matter what her past was, that doesn’t mean she has to subject her child to being a victim.
