Baboon On The Loose In Ocean County, Near Six Flags

JACKSON Twp., N.J. (CBS) -- The search is on as a baboon is on the loose in New Jersey. Several residents in Jackson Township called police saying they saw the animal on the streets. Authorities say it may have escaped from Six Flags nearby.

This 'great adventure' began Thursday afternoon when Jackson police say two people called in saying they saw a baboon on the streets.

The police contacted Six Flags who sent out a safari team to help find the animal, which did a great job of eluding authorities.

Finally, Friday afternoon, park spokesperson Kristin Siebeneicher says they got a visual.

"He's probably scared and really just looking to get back to his group, wherever he came from. So, our goal is to try to caputre him safely and complete an evaluation."

Siebeneicher says if they get him, they'll be able to see if he came from the park or somewhere else. She also says you shouldn't worry if you come across him.

Anne-Marie-Green reports...

"Considering that this seems to be an adolescent male. We believe the danger would be extremely, extremely minimal."

If anyone sees the baboon they're asked to call Jackson police or 9-1-1.
