PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Phillies have made a roster move, placing righthanded reliever Jose Contreras on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain. To take his spot in the bullpen, lefthander Juan Perez has his contract selected from AAA Lehigh Valley.
This is the second DL stint for Contreras, who was previously on the shelf for most of May with a right flexor pronator strain. He has a 3.86 ERA in 17 games this season.
Perez, 32, was 0-3 with four saves and a 3.52 ERA in 28 appearances with Lehigh Valley, with 41 strikeouts in 31⅔ innings. He’s been tough on lefthanded hitters, holding them to a .184 average (7-38).
The Phillies go for a sweep of the Cardinals tonight in St. Louis (see related story) behind righthander Roy Oswalt.
