Family Mourns The Loss Of Dad Night Before Father's Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A family is left to mourn the loss of their patriarch on the eve of Father's Day.

Family and friends wailed in disbelief. One minute their beloved father and husband was alive and well, the next he is shot and killed.

Ana Jimenez, the victim's niece, said "It's just too big of a loss for something so little."

Police responded to "Los Ingenitos", a corner grocery store, at 9th and York Streets in North Philadelphia shortly before 8 o'clock Saturday evening.

Police pronounced the store owner dead at the scene. Police say he was shot once in the face and once in the chest.

Family members later identified the victim as 62-year-old Felix Rodriguez.

Rodriguez leaves behind his wife, daughter and son, along with a 3-year-old granddaughter.

"She has cerebral palsy. He worked so hard to provide for her. He lived for that child," Jimenez added.

Police know robbery was the motive but as of late Saturday night, it was unclear if the suspects got away with anything.

As for the suspects, police say the only description given by eyewitnesses is that they were three black males who ran away from the store heading North on 9th Street.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police.
