PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Well now you have no excuse. You have been saying for weeks you’re going to try and get in shape for the summer season. The summer season has arrived but if you have not started working out or made changes to your diet it’s not too late.

It’s not too late to look better in a bathing suit and it is certainly not too late to begin making those long-term changes for the rest of your life.

In the short run most of us are motivated by looking better and there is nothing wrong with trying to feel good about yourself. But in the long run what we are all after is trying to have a healthy heart, and offsetting various health conditions.

There are no guarantees but with changes in lifestyle you increase your odds dramatically. So don’t be discouraged that it is the middle of June. Take comfort in the fact that it literally is the first day of the rest of your life.
