Positively Philadelphia: A Local Restaurant On A Pet-Rescue Mission
DEVON, Pa. (CBS) ---
(Sound of kittens meowing...)
People who love cats know that these kittens are saying, "Come get me, and also have a great lunch!"
The Black Cat Café, a new restaurant in Devon, Pa., is owned by PALS (Pet Adoption and Lifecare Society), a local pet rescue group. The café is run almost entirely by volunteers.
"Every dime of our profits goes to the animal rescue to save animals," says Patricia Maloney, executive vice president of PALS.

Adoptable pets are brought to a play area adjacent to the restaurant on Saturdays, and photos of cats and dogs adorn each table.
She says people should come see the animals and enjoy the food.
"Our strawberry field salad is our most popular one: spring greens with candied pecans that we bring up from the South and candy ourselves. It has a special dressing that is a recipe that I actually brought back from Paris," Maloney says.
And she adds that even the name of the restaurant comes from Paris:
"The Black Cat Café is the English version of a very famous Parisian café, Le Chat Noir, and I own four black cats. Black cats are disproportionately euthanized in shelters, probably due mostly to superstition."
Maloney says they are always eager for more customers -- whether to adopt a pet or just have lunch.
"We've been heartened by the positive response from almost everyone who's heard about it, because what we want is for people to come to eat there because the food is great -- which it is -- and at the same time they can save a life."
