Public Invited To Participate In Short Film Contest At Philadelphia Film Festival

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Lights, camera, action! as a new facet of the Philadelphia Film Festival invites you to participate.

"We've actually never done a short film contest before. This is a trial balloon, so to speak," Society Executive Director Andrew Greenblatt said. "We wanted to make a big deal about our 20th anniversary."

Requirements include 30 minutes or less in length, no copyrighted material and that each film include a shot of one of 20 Philadelphia icons, like the Liberty Bell. As to exact medium, Greenblatt says "film" is used broadly.

"People can shoot on their iPhones, on their FlipCams, on their DSL cameras, or they can use more professional equipment."

The field will be cut down to ten finalists by online voting, but then a panel led by Society artistic director Michael Lerman steps in. What's Lerman looking for?

"What he likes. What he finds as really enticing, engaging, maybe adventurous short film, maybe something that highlights Philadelphia particularly well. It's really discretionary."
