New Playground Opening On Ben Franklin Parkway

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Ribbon cutting ceremonies will be held Saturday on the Ben Franklin Parkway for a new play space for kids of all ages.

Two Logan Square mothers decided there was a need for a new and different kind of play space on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. FreePlay on the Parkway will offer activities to everyone; from Tai Chi to ping-pong to a huge eight sided sandbox to an imaginary playground box.

"There'll also be movable chairs and tables that will be out during the day where we'll put chess sets and things that will encourage people to come and sit and engage with each other," Co creator Christine Piven said.

The other co-creator Catherine Barrett is excited about the project.

"This is a great way to tie into vacant land, or at least underutilized land, to put something in that temporary, that can be moved once development comes, but there's at least some way for people to use the land differently."
