Philadelphia Mayoral Race Heats Up

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- In a few days, voters in Pennsylvania go to the polls, and this year, the mayoral race is getting more attention.

Democratic challenger Milton Street says he doesn't like the tactics of Police Commissioner Ramsey.

"I will fire him. He is the individual who sets the standard for the way the police deal with people. We had, in 2009, over 250 stops through this stop and frisk. People's civil liverties are being violated everyday," Street says.

Nutter, who is happy with his police commissioner, is more deeply concerned over charter school cutbacks. He says, "The elimination of the charter school reimbursement for about $220 million that was spread out statewide. Philadelphia has half of the charter schools in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and nearly half the students, so that's a big hit for us. We're big supporters of charter schools and more quality education options in this city."

John Featherman is focusing all of his efforts on the primaries for now, not worrying yet about November's elections. He says he is building strength and credibility in the Republican party. "This is exactly what we, as the new Republican party, are doing," said Featherman. "We are attracting people. We are giving solutions for jobs and taxes in Philadelphia."
