Automated Dog Wash (No Kidding) Opens In Northern Liberties

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An automated dog washing business in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia is giving city dwellers an alternative to washing Fido in the bathtub.

Customers of the "You Dirty Dog Do-It-Yourself Dog Wash," in the 900 block of North Third Street, put tokens into the automated K9000 machines -- the first such machines in Philadelphia.

Using his bulldog "Buk" as a model, Jim Kernan, owner of the business, says all you have to do is  put your pet in the self-contained unit, insert tokens, and away you go.

"It's really just as easy as picking up the hose and hitting the button," Kernan said, "and if you turn the dial you can go right from your shampoo to your flea-and-tick shampoo, give him a quick rinse, and then you put the conditioner on there.  Rinse him off again, and then you have two hair-dryer settings, high and low.   Some pets are a little bit more skittish about the blow dryer than others, so we have the two settings there."

It costs $15 to $20 per visit.
