Puppy Recovering After Pellet Gun Shooting

LANGHORNE, Pa. (CBS) - A New Jersey puppy has undergone surgery and is recovering at a veterinary hospital after being shot several times by a pellet gun.

The good news here at the CARES Veterinary Hospital (Center for Animal Referral and Emergency Services) is Rocko is doing well, wagging his tail and giving kisses this morning. The bad news is that he even has to go through all of this.

His owner found him in the street Tuesday morning, and at first thought he'd been hit by a car, but it turns out, Rocko had been shot three times with a bb-gun.

The 17-week-old puppy was brought to CARES for surgery because one of the BB's was lodged close to his spine.

CARES practice manager Donna Steckley says Rocko's still a bit spacey, but has come a long way in his recovery.

"Can't wait to see him up and running around because he's a really cute little puppy, so hopefully we'll see that side of him today once the anesthesia wears off."

Now over in Lumberton, NJ police are trying to figure out who shot little Rocko. The owner says he saw a blue pick-up truck drive off, investigators want to talk to the driver of that truck.
