PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mayor Michael Nutter says the broad outlines of the Tastykake deal look good to him.
The mayor says this outcome is very positive, given the financial problems that Tasty Baking Company was having (see related story). He says the broad brush strokes of the deal take care of city and state investments in the company’s future, and that Flowers Foods is aware that it is acquiring a valued brand name.
“I believe the Tasty name is staying,” Nutter told reporters this morning. “That actually apparently was important to Flowers, because it has such a presence not only in this marketplace but they also make a great product, and it gets spread all across the country. A very positive development for us.”
Nutter says there’s been no talk to this point about staffing at the Navy Yard plant but he says it has un-used capacity so it could potentially turn out even more pastry favorites.
