Ackerman Presents Report On Philadelphia School Reconfiguration

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The public tonight finds out which Philadelphia schools could close, under a district consolidation plan.

While some Philadelphia schools are overcrowded, some are half empty. The district says citywide, it has 70,000 empty seats in its school buildings.

The Ackerman administration at 5 p.m. Thursday presents to the School Reform Commission its draft report of which schools should close or be reconfigured to match available space with where it's needed.

The district examined enrollment and population trends and held a series of local input meetings in creating the draft.  Another series of community meetings to explain the plan will be held this Saturday through next Thursday.

District officials say some changes could take effect as early as this fall.
