Fire Rips Through Wynnefield Heights Apartment Complex

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - More than a dozen people have been displaced after a fire ripped through a Philadelphia apartment complex Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out at about 8:30 p.m. inside a third-story apartment at the Lincoln Green Apartments on the 4000 block of Presidential Boulevard in the city's Wynnefield Heights section.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire and smoke billowing from the rear of the building.

Due to the intensity of the blaze, firefighters were forced to pull away and battle the fire using ladders and ground hoses.

At 9:30 p.m., the fire had been placed under control and all fire personnel were accounted for.

There were no reports of any injuries to firefighters, but one resident was taken to an area hospital for a minor injury.

Fire officials said six apartments were damaged and 15 people were displaced. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
