Plenty of kids were on hand for the announcement that all Philadelphia public pools will open this summer (by KYW’s Mike Dunn)
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - City officials say all 70 city pools will be open this summer, though they’re still looking for private donations to help fund them.
Local school children performed at the mayor’s news conference to announce the third year of what’s called the “Splash and Summer FUNd” to keep pools open.
“We recognize that our pools are a safe haven and a treasured resource here in Philadelphia,”
Recreation Commission Sue Slawson said. “We are able to stand here again this year and say we will be opening all 70 of our pools.”
$600,000 in private donations will keep the pools open. $500,000 has been raised, so the fund is hoping to close the gap before the pools open.
