BLOG: February 10th Morning Weather

By Kate Bilo

Folks across Delaware and Southern New Jersey woke up this morning to a light covering of snow on the ground, with some brief heavier bands pushing through Sussex County. Accumulations were generally light, less than an inch, and that storm has now pushed farther south and out to sea - we shouldn't see any more snow today. Clouds are already beginning to diminish across the region, and with clearing skies and a cold northwesterly breeze, temperatures have been dropping all morning, and will be slow to recover this afternoon. Despite sunshine, I think highs today will be no better than freezing, with many locations staying in the twenties all day.

Tonight may well be the coldest night of the week, with generally light wind and clear skies - a recipe for cold. I expect some suburbs to fall into the single digits, with lower teens at best expected in the city and points south. Tomorrow, sunny skies and a moderating trend begins - it's still a chilly day but not as brutal, with highs in the mid-to-upper-30's.

The warming trend is still on for the weekend, though the real warmth (read: 50s) may try to hold off until the middle of next week. Saturday is a sunny and seasonable day, with a high around 42. Winds will pick up Saturday afternoon and it will stay breezy through Sunday, but Sunday may be the warmer weekend day with highs climbing to the upper 40s. Valentine's Day Monday will be breezy and we may see more clouds than sunshine. There is a small chance of light snow to the north of the city, but most areas should stay precip-free. Tuesday will feature a brief shot of cooler air, but after that it looks like much warmer air will begin to advect into the region. It's still early, but right now it looks like Weds-Fri of next week could be very mild, with highs as much as 10-15 degrees above normal!
