Local Officials Warn Of The Dangers Of Drinking And Driving

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Parties celebrating "The Big Game in Texas" are often heavy with food and drink and, if the drinks are alcohol, potential danger.

Shouts of "hurray!" for your favorite team aren't the only kind of "cheers" that accompany the The Big Game in Texas. Beer, wine and hard liquor often wash down the chili, ribs or whatever and later lead to potential drunk driving.

George Geisler of the Pennsylvania DUI Association says the body can eliminate about one drink an hour:

"We know that a typical drink of a 12 oz. beer or 4 oz. glass of wine or an ounce and a half of liquor is going to raise the blood alcohol concentration about .02 an hour, so we want to limit the people from consuming more than one drink an hour so that their BAC doesn't get out of control."

Geisler says make sure to have a designated driver and treat that person like royalty, because he or she allows others to have a ball.
